A full agenda of activities was held in Punta Arenas by the Undersecretary of Labor, Fernando Arab.

One of them was a tour of the Entrevientos salmon processing plant, known as one of the most southern in the world and which currently processes more than 42 thousand tons of salmon per year.

Entrevientos General Manager, John Mateo, emphasized: “We are very happy that they chose us for this visit. They had the opportunity to see our business, learn about part of the salmon industry in Magallanes. They were able to see the quality of our facilities, the level of technology and automation, and highlighted the positive impact of Entrevientos in the area, generating quality employment for more than 700 people, which makes us tremendously relevant”.

At the end of the visit, the undersecretary accompanied by the Regional Secretary of Labor, Victoria Cortés and the Regional Director, Carlo Gorziglia, highlighted the use of the Employment Subsidy. “The most relevant aspect of this new visit we have made to Magallanes is having been able to share with workers and employers from sectors so important for the region such as aquaculture and commerce, knowing firsthand how they have overcome difficulties in the context of the pandemic and how the tools provided by the State have been able to be used by them to maintain their jobs”, expressed Fernando Arab.

Finally, Undersecretary Arab highlighted the positive sanitary procedures in the operations to protect workers: “We must not lose sight of the fact that, as a result of the health crisis, companies had to adapt and tighten their controls in order to keep Covid-19 at bay. Here we have visited employers with good experiences in the application of the Step by Step Labor protocols, with which it has been possible to safeguard the life and safety of people in the region”.
