In an exciting penalty shootout, the Huape team defeated its rivals from La Aguada to be crowned champion of the second edition of this football tournament organized by the Corral Flour Plant Sports Club. Huape’s women’s team also obtained first place. 

(Corral, July 2018) Although the thermometer was approaching zero degrees, about 300 people defied the cold and arrived yesterday at the El Boldo Municipal Stadium in Corral, to witness the final of the Blumar Football Cup, in which the Huape team won after an exciting penalty shootout, by 5 goals to 3, against the La Aguada team. But it was not the only joy for this club, as the representatives of its women’s squad also lifted the cup, after prevailing a few hours earlier, against their rivals from Cadillal.

It was revenge for Huape, which last year, in the first edition of the Blumar Cup, was close to being crowned champion, but was defeated by the San Carlos squad which, this time, finished in fourth place, after being defeated, also on penalties, by the Blumar team.

This closing day of the tournament organized by the Corral Flour Plant Sports Club, sponsored by the local municipality and with the support of Blumar, had as a star guest the historic midfielder of Universidad Católica and former Chilean national team player Jorge “El mortero” Aravena, currently technical director of Deportes Valdivia. It was he who presented the cup to the winners and then directed some words to those present, where he highlighted the importance of companies collaborating in organizing activities that promote sports “especially in small towns”, he said.

He also noted that he could appreciate that there is friendship and closeness between the players of the rival teams, “elements that allow fair play and healthier competition”, he added.

Raúl Hermosilla, People Manager at Blumar, expressed the satisfaction it means for the company to support, for the second year, a sporting activity that has been so successful both in terms of the participation of the clubs involved, as well as in terms of public attendance at each of the matches. “We are happy with the result, with the enthusiasm of the community and, of course, with the support of the Corral authorities”, he concluded.

Tuesdays and Thursdays

Since June 28, every Tuesday and Thursday, the synthetic field of El Boldo was the scene where the six men’s teams and the four women’s teams faced off in exciting matches that were cheered on by fans of the clubs participating in this second edition of the Blumar Football Cup.

The big novelty this year was the integration of women’s teams represented by the teams from Huiro, Cadillal, Huape and San Carlos. In men’s competition, meanwhile, Blumar, Huiro, Huape, Cadillal, San Carlos and La Aguada competed.
