– Aquaculture specialty students received theoretical and practical classes, thanks to an agreement between the school and Blumar.

Punta Arenas, October 20, 2023. Thanks to the collaboration agreement between Blumar and María Behety High School, 24 students from the Aquaculture specialty program at the Punta Arenas school completed a course that will allow them to work as operators of submarine robots called Remote Operated Vehicles (ROV).
The classes were both theoretical and practical and lasted 50 hours, divided over two weeks. This is the third time this course has been held in partnership with the high school and, as in the two previous occasions, the modules were financed through tax credits from the National Training and Employment Service (Sence).
Blumar’s Production Sub-Manager in Magallanes, Pablo Solís, stated that “we had a high turnout of young people from the high school. Over these two weeks, they acquired tools that allow them not only to graduate as a technician in the basic level of Aquaculture, but also to have this tool that allows them to develop themselves in other fields related to this area”.
Patagonia Rov’s Operations Assistant, Nelson Sánchez, commented that “they were taught the practical and technical aspects of submarine robotics. The young people were very enthusiastic, and I encouraged them each day to take advantage of this unique opportunity”.
Camila Huerta, one of the Aquaculture students who participated in the course, stated that “I found it very entertaining. We hadn’t had exposure to this before and it’s going to be very useful for us in the future, when we’re doing our internship and want to join a company”.
The practical classes were held thanks to the support of Patagonia Rov and Empresa Portuaria Austral, which provided the facilities at Mardones Dock. With this initiative, there are now 8 courses and programs that Blumar has developed with the high school, as a way to contribute to technical and professional education.
