Students from Liceo María Behety receive certification that allows them to expand knowledge and the labor field in which they will work

Education & Training

Complementing the training of students at Liceo María Behety is the main objective of an agreement between the technical-professional establishment and the BluRiver company.

To increase the knowledge that young people receive, BluRiver conducted for the second consecutive year, a training on the food safety system for 37 young people from the aquaculture and gastronomy specialties.

The course, which was developed online, included content related to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standardized Operating Procedures for Sanitation (SSOP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), mandatory techniques for working in food processing plants.

In charge of conducting the training was food engineer, specialized in safety, Nelda Rodríguez, who stated: “it was a different experience, since last year I conducted this course in person. Furthermore, this year the gastronomy specialty was incorporated, so it was a great challenge to try to show the aquaculture profile, talk about farming and salmon, but also adapt to the interests of the gastronomy students”.

While thanking the contribution, the director of Liceo María Behety, Marcela Andrade, highlighted: “BluRiver company has been our ally for approximately three years, and once again collaborates with us in the training of our students, not only for aquaculture students, but this year we also included gastronomy students. In this time of pandemic we believe that the training and certification that we can provide to our students is absolutely relevant, especially for fourth-year students who graduate this year and will face early professional practice”.

Gastronomy student, Scarlett Peykovich, commented: “I am grateful for the opportunity that the company gave us, the management, my classmates for giving their best effort in the classes and our teacher who was very patient with us, encouraged us and was very didactic and fun, and tried everything to make us feel comfortable in the classes”.

Meanwhile, Natalia Pinto, aquaculture student, expressed: “we want to thank the teacher, who taught us something that was completely unknown to us. We are grateful for this opportunity that does not come every day and I hope that we all took advantage of this course and have learned a lot”.

The manager of BluRiver Salmon, Ignacio Covacevich, highlighted: “for us it is important the support that has been given to the high school. The truth is that today we obtain professionals from them who are working in our centers, and who have given us very good results. This training also allows us to have young people prepared to work in the Entrevientos processing plant”.

For 2021 the challenge will be to strengthen this alliance with Liceo María Behety. If the health situation permits, in-person classes and trainings will resume.

Otherwise, online activities will continue to be maintained, to continue training specialized human capital in Magallanes.

At the consolidated level, the company reported increases in revenue, pre-fair value adjustment EBITDA, and net income during the second quarter and first half of 2026, driven primarily by the fishing segment and the recognition of U.S. tariff refunds in the salmon segment. On a year-to-date basis, the aquaculture segment remained below the results recorded in the first half of 2025, although it showed a recovery during the second quarter.
