• The workshops provided tools to 26 young people on topics including curriculum vitae, professional profiles and markets, recruitment, as well as Occupational Health and Safety classes.

The fishing and salmon farming company, Blumar, in partnership with Universidad San Sebastián, concluded the “Job Orientation Workshop” program at the Carlos Haverbeck Richter High School in Corral, an initiative in which 26 senior students from the Industrial Food Processing specialty were able to participate.

Over 8 weeks of work, the young people received tools for their upcoming job selection processes, in order to strengthen their skills and attitudes that would facilitate their integration and development, as well as their job continuity.

Additionally, the company, within the framework of its “On-Board Visits” program, opened the doors of its fish meal and fish oil plant to conduct a tour of its facilities, show the production process carried out inside and teach an Occupational Health and Safety course with topics from its Technical Professional curriculum focused on quality, production and industrial waste management.

Regarding the alliance signed in August of this year, Pablo Hoffmann, Vice-Rector of USS, Valdivia campus, expressed that “close collaboration with our surroundings, together with understanding the needs and challenges of the community, gives us the opportunity to contribute to regional development” in this context he highlighted that “the collaboration between Blumar, the high school and USS has been essential for the realization of this project, which aimed at job readiness. This represents a clear example of how, working together, we are capable of making a difference in the lives of our students and in the future of the locality.”

During the ceremony, the administrator of the Corral plant, Carlos Jainaga, commented “The closing of this course fills us with pride. Seeing the results and learning of the students, and knowing that we provided tools that will be useful in their future is very satisfying”, the company representative also emphasized the concept of “open doors” highlighting that “Blumar will always be willing to receive young people from the municipality who want to learn and develop in the industry”.

Finally, Ghysline Contreras, a student who participated in the program, expressed that “through the various activities we carried out I learned about diverse topics, among which I highlight curriculum and job interviews, which now make me feel more prepared to enter the job market” and also positively valued the visit to the plant, noting that it helped her “broaden her vision of the fishing industry and understand the processes that take place within it”.
