S&P Methodology: Blumar Stands Out as One of the Companies with the Best Sustainability Standards

Sustainability

– The scores obtained by the company also position it as the best fishing company and among the top two salmon farming companies in the country with the best performance in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment.

Blumar obtained 73 points in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), the annual evaluation of companies in the Food category that participate in this assessment by risk rating agency S&P Global, improving by 17 points in just one year. This milestone reaffirms its corporate purpose: We nourish people while honoring the ocean.

The tool annually highlights industry leaders, measuring them through the CSA across the dimensions of Environment, Social, and Governance. Since Blumar began intentionally evaluating itself through the CSA in 2021, its total score has increased from 42 to 73 points obtained this year, achieving a 74% increase in 3 years.

Specifically, in the Environment dimension, the Chilean company went from 42 points in 2021 to 75 in 2024; in Social, Blumar started with 44 points, obtaining 73 this year; and finally, in Governance, the fishing and salmon farming company achieved 39 points when it began measuring, while this year it reached 69 points.

The company’s growth in this global indicator represents continuous improvement in sustainability, which translates to Blumar being the Chilean fishing company with the best performance and the second salmon farming company with the best performance. The company, in fact, finds itself thanks to these results within the top 2% of food companies with the highest score (98th percentile).

“This tool has allowed us to test our sustainability strategy, which is integrated into our business strategy and, above all, to give meaning to our ESG efforts, with measurable goals that impact society and business. Undoubtedly, these results reflect the enormous work of the people who work at Blumar,” highlighted Blumar’s CEO, Gerardo Balbontín.

The Blumar case is quite innovative. The work, which has been led by the company’s Human Resources and Sustainability Management, has involved the deployment of a strategy based on the company’s business with a focus on main stakeholders. Thus, social and environmental objectives have also been implemented in economic and financial measures, such as the two syndicated loans under the Sustainability Link Loan methodology, which provided financing at better rates subject to the company’s ESG commitments.

“This is a path of continuous improvement and we are very proud to be one of the companies with the best sustainability standard, which is a responsibility to continue advancing in best practices that enable future business development,” commented Blumar’s Sustainability Sub-Manager, Felipe Hormazábal.
