The authority met with executives from the fishing area and visited the facilities of the frozen jack mackerel plant in San Vicente. On the occasion, she highlighted the company’s participation in the Aggregated Energy Demand pilot that she promoted in Biobío.

(Talcahuano, July 2017) The Seremí of Energy, Carola Venegas, held a meeting with Blumar executives and professionals in Talcahuano.

The meeting took place at the company’s Fleet facilities, located in San Vicente, where the representative of that ministry in Biobío learned about the operational process of the frozen jack mackerel plant for export of Blumar S.A., which this year will have a production of approximately 36 thousand tons.

At the meeting, details were also provided about Blumar’s participation in the country’s first Electrical Demand Aggregation pilot, which allowed this company and 12 others in the Region to improve energy purchasing conditions in negotiations with generators.

“Following participation in the Large Consumers Board, promoted by the Seremí of Energy of Biobío, we were able to combine the energy needs of different companies in the area. This process, plus other parallel efforts carried out by our Supply Area, allowed us to access better rates, which for Blumar and its subsidiary companies resulted in a cost reduction of around 40 percent”, explained Enrique Cisterna, Manager of Fishing Operations at Blumar.

Seremí Carola Venegas highlighted Blumar for the close relationship it has maintained with the Ministry of Energy, both in electrical demand aggregation and in the work that will involve evaluating opportunities for fuel switching to gas and energy efficiency projects. “We value the openness that Blumar has shown, as well as the collaboration and commitment to sustainability through the use of energy to continue betting on the economic and social development of the Biobío Region”, she stated.

Currently, the energy needs of Blumar and its subsidiaries amount to approximately 60 thousand megawatts annually.
