Puerto Montt, May 3, 2022. Since last year, the School of Architecture at San Sebastián University, Patagonia Campus, has been developing an innovative project involving Blumar company with the artisanal fishing cove of Anahuac, in Puerto Montt, whose objective is to provide tools to materialize new infrastructure for the traditional productive sector in the capital of the Los Lagos Region.
The proposal has been developed in a participatory and co-constructed manner with the cove leaders, headed by the union president, Juan García, and with the collaboration of the private sector, through the company Salmones Blumar.
The project, in its first stage, contemplates the design of the target image of a future tourism infrastructure, which was presented and delivered to the leaders of Anahuac cove by the executing team, led by the academic of Community Engagement at the School of Architecture, Teresita Bustamante, and the director of the program in Puerto Montt, Carolina Fonseca. Graduate Andrea Dunker has also participated as a designer.
Currently, together with students from the Architecture Practice Workshop and their academics, this target image is being developed with the aim of becoming a first preliminary project that allows the fishermen’s union to manage the future and phased materialization of the work.
The second phase of this initiative contemplates a Master Plan for the cove, with detailed design of contemporary and functional infrastructure that allows its sustainable development over the next 20 years, respecting the culture and traditions of artisanal fishing, natural attractions and sustainability.
Collaborative Work
Academic Carolina Fonseca explained that the proposal consists of spatially favoring activities that, in an ingenious manner and without adequate space, fishermen currently develop to serve tourists.
