Strengthening dialogue between salmon farming and local authorities is fundamental to advance concrete solutions, according to SalmonChile. In this regard, the trade association, together with executives and leaders from Camanchaca, Blumar, Yadrán and Salmones Austral, met with the regional governor of Biobío, Sergio Giacaman, reaffirming their commitment to collaboration and sector development.
The meeting allowed for sharing the results of the “Dialogues for the Future of Salmon Farming”, an initiative organized throughout the past year by SalmonChile that enabled the development of a proposal to project the sector towards 2050, including the perspectives of all those who are part of this productive sector. During the protocol visit, fundamental topics for the sustainable development of the sector and its contribution to the regional economy were addressed. In this context, the governor highlighted the relevance of salmon farming in Biobío and the need to strengthen the region’s logistic infrastructure to boost sector exports.
“Salmon farming is a very important industry for the Biobío region, where they have their processing plants and also farming centers. It is an industry that adds to others that strengthen us as an industrial and logistic capital of Chile. Together we must address the challenge of salmon exports leaving through our region, enabling our airports for national and international cargo dispatch. We value the importance and quality work it delivers to its employees, as well as its positive impact on the country’s economy”, said regional governor, Sergio Giacaman.
For his part, SalmonChile’s Public Affairs Manager, Tomás Monge, emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation for the development of salmon farming in the area:
“Through dialogue and collaboration we are building the future of salmon farming. We thank the governor for his willingness and commitment to the sustainable development of our sector and the regions of southern Chile. The “Salmon Dialogues” initiative has allowed us to get even closer to communities and authorities to work together for a more sustainable and prosperous industry”, Monge stated.
Felipe Hormazabal, Blumar Sustainability Sub-Manager commented: “As Blumar, we reaffirm our commitment to the aquaculture activity in the area where, as an industry, we unite with a long-term vision, strengthening our contribution to regional development and the well-being of those who are part of this activity. Meeting with our authorities is fundamental to make the industry known and highlight the strategic importance of Biobío in the salmon industry’s value chain”
On the other hand, Carla Scheggia, Sub-Manager of Communications and Social Sustainability at Camanchaca SA: “This meeting allowed us to strengthen salmon farming’s commitment to the development of Biobío, as well as discuss concrete opportunities to strengthen its logistic infrastructure. At Camanchaca we firmly believe that public-private collaboration is the path to achieve prosperity in the territories, especially in Biobío where we have a history as a company”.
