The salmon recapture protocol from the “Caicura” farming center was approved by the competent authority, which enabled Blumar to begin this Monday, together with the 421 listed fishermen, a coordinated effort to recover the fish that escaped as a result of the emergency experienced in the early morning of June 27, when a strong storm caused the collapse of the farming cages at the “Caicura” center, located off the coast of Hualaihué.

Blumar’s Salmon Area Manager, Pedro Pablo Laporte, commented that the logistics for implementing the recapture plan has been intense and highlighted the great collaborative spirit of the communities, which have organized themselves to work on the recapture, in coordination with the company, and thus fulfill what is required by current regulations. Similarly, the authority has been in constant contact to accelerate the processes and thus achieve the corresponding compliance.

Regarding human consumption, Blumar’s Salmon Area Manager, Pedro Pablo Laporte, commented that “we still don’t know the magnitude of the escape, but a group of cages had begun treatment in compliance with all current regulations, which is why the recaptures will be destined preventively for fish meal and oil. At the time of the incident the fish had not reached market weight and therefore did not meet all the corresponding sampling requirements for release to harvest.”

It was also reported that investigations are advancing regarding the current state of the center that was affected by the storm and that as weather conditions permit, technical teams will be able to provide statements on the condition of the damaged infrastructure, which unfortunately was not possible to complete today due to poor weather conditions.
