Representatives of the international financial entity toured cultivation centers, the processing plant and Blumar Market in Punta Arenas, where they learned firsthand about the company’s work in quality, traceability and sustainability matters.
As part of the relationship and on-site knowledge of the Chilean aquaculture industry, Rabobank representatives visited different Blumar facilities in the Magallanes Region, with the aim of learning about the company’s operations and deepening their vision on the development of salmon farming in the far south of the country.
The delegation–headed by Thiago Guedes, Regional Sustainability Business Manager at Rabobank, and also comprised of Ángeles Undurraga, Head of Sustainability and Cecilia Campos, Sustainability Associate–toured the Punta Laura cultivation center, the Blumar Magallanes processing plant and Blumar Market. The event made it possible to address the main challenges and opportunities currently facing the salmon industry, especially in matters of sustainability, operational efficiency, innovation and regional development.
This event is also part of the relationship that Blumar maintains with Rabobank, an international bank specialized in food and agribusiness, which serves as structuring bank and agent for the company through a Sustainability Linked Loan, a mechanism that incorporates goals linked to sustainability and ESG performance.
Blumar’s Salmon Business Manager, Pedro Pablo Laporte, highlighted that the event made it possible to “show on-site the work that is carried out day by day in Magallanes and how the industry has advanced in production standards, traceability, quality and sustainability. For us, it is important to generate spaces for dialogue and transparency with actors who deeply understand the evolution of aquaculture globally”.
From Rabobank, Undurraga valued that “the visit allowed us to appreciate the evolution that the salmon industry in Chile has experienced in strengthening its productive practices. Throughout the tour it was possible to observe an operation that conveys order, consistency and management aligned with standards defined in matters of quality, food safety and traceability”.
Likewise, representatives from the financial entity highlighted the role that Magallanes has acquired for the development of the salmon industry and future opportunities associated with innovation and sustainability. “We see growth prospects for those companies that are strengthening their practices. Global demand for healthy proteins continues to show an upward trend and Chilean salmon has a relevant opportunity to the extent that it can differentiate itself through its environmental performance, animal welfare and regulatory compliance”, said Undurraga.
