– It was a children’s book that tells the journey made by Magellan and Elcano, which was a contribution by the salmon farming company to the region, as part of the commemorations of that historical milestone. 

Last week, the first business meeting Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica was held at the Cultural Center of Punta Arenas, organized by the Municipality of Punta Arenas and the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC), with the support of various organizations. This unprecedented event was attended by more than 130 national and regional business leaders.

During this meeting, the mayor of Punta Arenas, Claudio Radonich, recognized the importance of the private sector and took the opportunity to highlight and award four companies for their contributions in different areas. One of them was the salmon and fishing company Blumar, which was awarded for its contribution to culture through a children’s book called “Around the World with Magellan and Elcano”, by author Rosamaria Solar and illustrations by Dušan Matulić, which tells the journey 500 years after its completion.

“It is a tremendous recognition, very important for us, because it confirms the bond we have with the community; and that the Municipality chose us among four companies in the region is extremely important, because it means we are building visible value for the people and inhabitants of Punta Arenas, through instances that allow us to be close to them,” commented Pablo Solís, production submanager of Salmones Blumar Magallanes.

At the meeting, which had the participation of all branches of the CPC, as well as Sofofa and actors from the public sector, Mayor Claudio Radonich highlighted the relevance of building bridges between the public and private sectors to contribute to local development. In that context, he highlighted Blumar’s contribution, noting that the company “has had a very important relationship with the Municipality and, for that reason, we wanted, on behalf of the Municipal Council, to give it recognition for its contribution, hoping that this journey together can be maintained and extended to many areas.”

The awards ceremony took place as part of the business meeting, which also incorporated a cultural element with the presentation of the musical work Antarctica, which captivated those attending the José Bohr Municipal Theater in the city. It incorporated music, singing, dance and impressive visuals, and sought to rescue the identity of the region, exploring themes such as snow, indigenous peoples and the importance of Punta Arenas as the gateway to the continent. The direction was in charge of the renowned producer Manuel Guzmán, while each municipal cast contributed with their talent.
