Public Statement

Fulfilling our public commitment to keep the community properly informed about the different tasks we are carrying out following the sinking of the Caicura center, we share with you the proposal we have made to the authorities to understand how the marine environment is behaving as a result of this episode.

  1. Since the day the Caicura center sank after being hit by an unusual storm, we have devoted all human and technological resources to respond to indications from the authorities and propose to the communities serious and safe action plans for people and the environment.
  2. After speaking with professionals, scientists and academics, and after analyzing multiple records, we have proposed to the authorities the implementation of a Comprehensive Monitoring Plan that extends the study area beyond the center’s location and involves measuring a greater number of parameters over a period of six months.
  3. This plan is based on a proposal from the Research and Development Center for Coastal Resources and Environments (i-mar Center) at the University of Los Lagos, and developed with academics from different study centers. The working group responsible for this task is made up of three doctors in Oceanography, one doctor in Marine Sciences, one doctor in Management and Conservation of Natural Resources, and ten Marine Biologists, among other professionals.
  4. The Comprehensive Monitoring Plan includes eight monitoring stations and four control stations, including the oceanographic buoy that i-mar has had in the Reloncaví Sound for more than three years, which allows it to have a more robust baseline with scientific information from the area. This buoy performs the functions of a Meteorological Station, as it measures atmospheric pressure, air temperature, environmental humidity and wind speed and direction; and also of an Oceanographic Station, since it monitors water temperature, pH, turbidity, conductivity, fluorescence and dissolved oxygen, among other parameters.
  5. To this end, 11 complete oceanographic campaigns will be carried out over a semester, in which these experts will systematically measure 12 chemical parameters and 10 physical parameters, to understand how the marine environment behaves in relation to the center’s sinking.
  6. This Comprehensive Monitoring Plan will study the marine currents in the area and the physical-chemical conditions of the water column near the bottom, so water samples will be taken for quantitative phytoplankton analysis and total and partial organic carbon, total nitrogen, nitrate, nitrite and phosphate, among others, will be measured. It will also analyze the marine floor, from where sediments will be extracted, and benthic macrofauna will be investigated. And in parallel, the behavior  of birds, sea lions, scavenging species and bacteria will also be observed and analyzed.
  7. For Dr. Iván Pérez-Santos, scientist and Research Coordinator of the i-mar Center, “this is a serious proposal, with an interdisciplinary academic approach that goes beyond the requirements made by the authorities, since we will not only measure more parameters indicated in the regulations, but we will also increase the territorial area of research. Furthermore, this approach will allow us to act in a timely manner to know how the marine environment is behaving following the sinking of this center”.
  8. Likewise, environmental consultant Francisco Mery, manager of the South Patagonia office of WSP, explains that “Blumar requested a multiple variable monitoring plan from the i-mar Center, so this is a deep and thorough study, which includes 11 comprehensive oceanographic campaigns over six months and will count on specialists from universities, study centers and companies specialized in these matters. This is an unprecedented effort, which should bring peace of mind to the authorities and communities, since what is being proposed is very serious and detailed work”.

Blumar Reports Second-Quarter 2026 Results and Details Performance by Segment

At the consolidated level, the company reported increases in revenue, pre-fair value adjustment EBITDA, and net income during the second quarter and first half of 2026, driven primarily by the fishing segment and the recognition of U.S. tariff refunds in the salmon segment. On a year-to-date basis, the aquaculture segment remained below the results recorded in the first half of 2025, although it showed a recovery during the second quarter.
