76% of smaller-sized suppliers in the area, that is, 4,372 SMEs, will benefit from this certification which guarantees effective payment of invoices within a maximum period of 30 days. This seal adds to the one that Blumar’s fishing area obtained at the beginning of last year, which today has an impact on 4,400 companies.
“It is an opportunity for our smaller-sized suppliers to thrive, improve their financial conditions and profitability”.
This is how Blumar’s general manager, Gerardo Balbontín, described the certification that through the ProPyme Seal was received by the company’s salmon area, during a ceremony held this Tuesday, May 2 in the city of Puerto Montt, Los Lagos region.
The executive recalled that the salmon farming industry has experienced complex crises from a financial perspective. On those occasions, he said, one of the links in the value chain most affected has been that of smaller-sized companies, with payment delays that have forced them to seek alternative financing systems that take a large part of their profits.
Hence the importance, he added, of obtaining the ProPyme Seal, which ensures effective payment within 30 days or less of invoices from Blumar to its suppliers that are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), “a commitment that only in our salmon area will benefit 76% of our suppliers”, he assured.
The ProPyme Seal of Blumar Salmon adds to the one that the company’s fishing area obtained during 2016, which today has an impact on 4,400 companies. In total, Balbontín explained, this certification “is a demonstration of our commitment to achieve better engagement with our different stakeholder groups, where suppliers occupy a fundamental space”.
“An example”
The regional ministerial secretary (seremi) of Economy in Los Lagos, Carmen Gloria Muñoz, was the one who presented this certification to Blumar. At the ceremony, the authority highlighted the company as “an example” for the rest of the companies on how to continue advancing in social responsibility, despite the different contingencies that the industry or market in general may be experiencing.
It is also, expressed Guillermo Clarke, of Clarke Companies EIRL, a benefit that translates into competitive advantages for suppliers. It allows, he emphasized, to manage accounts payable much better, organizes and standardizes salary payments and guarantees dates to meet banking and tax commitments: “That is, it allows us to carry out a budget that with other clients cannot be traced”, Clarke concluded.
