This week the “Integrated Multitrophic Aquaculture” project was inaugurated, a proposal executed by the University of Aysén, Salmones Blumar and Salmón Chile through the Technological Institute, Intesal, an initiative that will be financed by the Regional Government of Aysén through the Innovation Fund for Competitiveness (FIC)
Among the main objectives of the project is to strengthen aquaculture in order to incorporate it into the development and economy of the communities in the sector. Furthermore, the aim is to diversify the supply of products developed by the regional aquaculture sector, through the application of research and innovation through value creation by means of the sustainable use of natural resources and ecosystems, which is one of the objectives that supports this initiative.
Our salmon manager, Pedro Pablo Laporte, noted that priority has also been given to the comprehensive development of the communities on the coast of the Aysén region, including artisanal fishermen and their enterprises.
“This is a very interesting experience of sustainable development that alternates the use of farming centers, which once at rest, can be used through a species rotation system, specifically macroalgae for human consumption and other uses, which makes it possible to generate employment sources for local communities of artisanal fishermen”.
For Salmones Blumar it is important to participate in these initiatives because aquaculture is rated worldwide as the most viable alternative to increase the supply of marine resources that humanity will demand considering the significant increase in the world population, which is why we want to support through our work to contribute to local development by promoting good practices among organizations.
