Once again, the Chilean Safety Association certified Blumar as an industry that has a Management Plan for the prevention of COVID-19 contagion. This time the distinction was made for the Salmon Plant and Administration, located in Talcahuano. Previously, the Fishing area had already received the certification.
This seal seeks to verify compliance with the requirements established by the Ministry of Health and the Superintendency of Social Security (SUSESO) for pandemic control in large companies. This plan commits to implementing the measures established there, as well as international best practices.
Cinthia García, Sub-manager Biobío of Achs, said that in the area, noted that few companies have obtained this certification. “The preparation of the Blumar group is striking in relation to caring for people, it speaks very well of a company that ensures its workplace as a peaceful place for its workers and their families”, she highlighted.
Meanwhile, Daniel Montoya, Commercial Manager of Blumar, received the seal as something very positive. “This is the cherry on top in an impeccable process where we have learned to live with the pandemic. Initially it was difficult, but we have all worked to meet the requirements that allow us to take care of ourselves”.
For Maribel Varela, Head of Safety and Occupational Health at Blumar, the delivery of this seal consolidates a year of management in terms of Covid 19 prevention.”We started in March 2019 with the measures, but in April we had a shift closure due to contagion, that was our turning point, we stopped and after a year of teamwork and management with the support of different professionals we managed to consolidate a model that has been successful in terms of pandemic control”.
She highlighted that this has been a very participatory management, “we have a Covid-19 committee that functions daily and is led by our manager Fernanda Taboada, and integrates the participation of the union president. There is also a robust health team that daily supports our people, with interviews, vital sign monitoring”, said Maribel Varela, who emphasized that the greatest learning “has been the awareness installed, knowing that we are a food-producing industry, and that we have a greater responsibility and in particular when working with the aquaculture world we must have operational continuity, the strategy has been focused on daily care and health control of our workers”, she pointed out.
At Blumar, they highlighted that another support has been the agreement established with Inmunomedica that has enabled medical advice and biosecurity. Blumar has also implemented innovative measures such as the corona-tracer device, a technological element that has contributed to positive traceability. On the other hand, the important investment made by the company in measures such as, for example, the implementation of buses for the transportation of its workers, the installation of physical barriers in the process lines and rest of the facilities, such as the cafeteria, have contributed to adequate control of virus spread.
