MASTERCHEF FINALIST TAUGHT COOKING TO SCHOOLCHILDREN IN TALCAHUANO

Education & Training

The municipality of Talcahuano, in alliance with the companies Blumar and PacificBlu, invited chef Ignacio Román to share with elementary school students from the port city and to give a motivational talk to students in the Gastronomy specialty at Liceo C25 in that municipality.

“Healthy eating starts at home,” was the phrase with which chef Ignacio Román, who became known during the first season of MasterChef Chile on Canal 13, began his class for elementary school students from municipal schools in Talcahuano, which was organized by the DAEM of that municipality, with the support of the companies Blumar and PacificBlu.

Children from the schools Los Lobos, Las Higueras, México Estado de Guerrero and Liceo Anita Serrano from the port participated, who cooked alongside the chef, but also enjoyed an entertaining dance session and presented artistic performances for attendees.

During his class, Ignacio Román taught the children two recipes based on healthy and nutritious products, and explained to them the importance of knowing how to prepare food that takes care of their health from childhood. “Children should not be afraid of the kitchen. The idea is that always with the supervision of an adult, they learn different preparations that encourage healthy eating, that they are educated in this area and thus stop preferring junk food or high-sugar products,” he added.

The event took place at Liceo C25 in the port, which offers a Gastronomy specialty for its students, who graduate from their secondary education with the title of mid-level technical degree in Gastronomy. With them, precisely, Ignacio Román held a private meeting to share his life story and his path to becoming one of the most media-prominent and recognized chefs in the country.

Both activities were part of the second Healthy Eating event organized by the Municipality of Talcahuano, through its Department of Education of Municipal Administration (DAEM), whose objective, as explained by its director, Pedro Soto Gaete, is to promote comprehensive student development. “Today we must understand that it is not only important to focus on mathematics and language or the PSU or Simce, but we must dedicate ourselves to promoting a process that includes various aspects of the development of our children and youth, where health care appears as a fundamental concern for the municipality.”

The Head of Human Resources at PacificBlu, Pedro Muñoz, explained that together with the Blumar company they are proud to collaborate with the learning of schoolchildren in Talcahuano, to highlight the importance of modifying eating habits and raising awareness about the relevance of living a healthy life. A support that was highlighted by the DAEM director, who expressed that from the municipality they greatly value the backing that both companies give to this type of initiative, as they are generating a tremendous positive impact on the population. “With these actions they demonstrate that they are committed to Talcahuano, specifically to its children, and that they clearly understand the social responsibility that companies should have with their surroundings, which is deeply appreciated,” he concluded.
