The activity is part of the Sea Month commemoration program with which the company joins Asipes’ call for companies in the sector to showcase their work to the community.
Blumar held a different Open House Day than in previous years in Talcahuano to commemorate Sea Month. This was because among the visitors were regional authorities, such as Intendente Jorge Ulloa, representatives of the port authority, volunteer institutions and neighbors from San Vicente Norte, San Vicente Sur and Partal de Talcahuano, including the priest of one of the churches in the sector.
With this activity, the company joined the call that Asipes makes every May for companies in the sector to showcase their work to the community.
On this occasion, the guests toured the facilities of Bahía de Blumar, located in the San Vicente area. The main activity of the day was a tour of the Don Alfonso Deep Sea Fishing Vessel, the most modern vessel in Blumar’s fleet, 73 meters in length, 12 meters in beam and a draft of 6 meters.
Enrique Cisterna, Blumar’s Fishing Operations Manager, guided the delegation on their visit to the vessel. He noted that for the guests it was quite a surprise to learn about the comfort and excellent living conditions that the fishing vessel had for its crew, as well as the technology with which it is equipped to ensure that the product of its catches, in this case jack mackerel, arrives in excellent condition to the company’s processing plants.
Intendente Jorge Ulloa thanked Blumar for creating opportunities that allow the community, mainly the neighbors -he emphasized-, to learn about its activity from within. “This is a company that has been based in Talcahuano for 60 years and, therefore, it is good and fundamental that those who live in its sector know it. It is an extraordinarily positive gesture,” he said.
And he added: “With this invitation, Blumar is telling us: we want you to know us, we want you to know where, how and with whom we work. And that is relevant so that when people have an opinion, they do so with true knowledge of what happens in the internal processes of each of these companies,” he added.
Raquel Espinoza, president for 10 years of the San Vicente Norte Neighborhood Board of Talcahuano, also valued this invitation. She stated that every year the company makes sure that its neighbors attend this activity and others of the same kind that allow the community to be informed about what is carried out in it. “Furthermore, its professionals are always concerned with maintaining contact with us so that in case something that impacts us occurs, we can communicate it to them and that way they can solve it as soon as possible,” she concluded.
