– The committee that held its first session in May of this year has already shown progress in the roadmap outlined, and set up an annual event in Talcahuano to share best practices regarding equity in the different areas where working groups were established.
Talcahuano, September 6. As part of the commitment assumed by Blumar regarding gender equity issues, the salmon fishing company held the second session of its gender equity committee. In this instance, progress on the defined roadmap was reviewed, results from the “Leading with Gender Equity” workshops and the establishment of regional working groups were presented, in addition to reviewing challenges in this area for the second half of 2023.
At the meeting, Margarita Ducci, executive director of the Global Pact Network Chile, participated and gave a presentation in which she addressed practices from different companies on gender equity issues, as well as the benefits that companies, communities and different people obtain when implementing these practices at local and global levels.
The Global Pact representative also highlighted the formation of the committee and stated that “from Global Pact we seek to support these processes with the Target Gender Equality program. While Blumar has already generated several indicators, I believe that being able to participate in this program to share and compare experiences with other companies provides good examples to apply within the company, and can be very enriching”.
For her part, Natalia Alfaro, sub-manager of People, highlighted the formation of zonal working groups in Caldera and Puerto Montt, and stated that “we are very hopeful that this will give us a realistic, traceable and concrete path to continue advancing on this route of generating equal opportunities for all people at Blumar”. Likewise, she highlighted Margarita Ducci’s intervention, noting that “knowing her vision and experience allows us to enrich the committee’s perspective and thus contribute to management at Blumar, with a broader perspective on equity issues”.
Finally, the session agreed to hold an annual event of the zonal working groups in the city of Talcahuano to share best practices from the different areas where Blumar operates, in order to carry out collaborative work and continue advancing on the objectives that were set, emphasizing recruitment and selection processes, promotion of supervisory positions and the opening of training spaces.
