The fishing and salmon farming company Blumar held the first session of the Gender Equity Committee, an instance that brought together the working group composed of 12 representatives from different areas and regions of the company, together with the research center and labor consulting firm Data Lab. In this, they were able to learn about work guidelines, the results of the company’s first diagnosis, and the ten-point agreement to which they subscribed in order to advance and raise awareness on labor equality issues.
Blumar’s General Manager, Gerardo Balbontín, stated that “there is a commitment to move forward, and a ten-point plan was defined to do so, now we need to establish how we will measure these advances and where we want to position ourselves. Today, based on the evaluation carried out by the consulting firm, we are at the country’s average, the idea is to exceed that average and have an increasingly inclusive and equitable company”.
For his part, Data Lab director Carlos Portales, commented that “Blumar has tremendous strengths, in terms of inclusion and equity, there is a very strong commitment from the board and corporate governance, we detected that in the diagnosis, and that is important, as it provides a very relevant starting point for everything that can be done later”. The expert also emphasized three key points of work to achieve equity: recruitment and selection, promoting supervisory and management positions, as well as opening training spaces.
On this, Natalia Alfaro, Sub-Manager of People and part of the committee, valued the instance positively and declared that “this committee represents an important milestone at Blumar, as we will give governance to the issue of gender equality and we will be able to order a path that we have already traveled, so that we can set goals and continue advancing in these matters that are very relevant to make our company a fairer, more equitable place with greater opportunities for all”.
To close out the day, a workshop was held, led by Data Lab, which opened a space for reflection among attendees from different Blumar locations, in relation to the strengths and challenges that the company presents based on the results of the gender equity index conducted by the labor consulting firm.
