– The authority held meetings with sector stakeholders and toured Blumar’s plant, highlighting its technology, employment, and contribution to regional development.

Punta Arenas, April 17, 2026. With the aim of learning firsthand about the productive and social reality of the southern region, Deputy Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism; and Mining, Daniel Mas Valdés, arrived today in the Magallanes Region, as part of the Government’s roadmap to boost economic activity and strengthen legal certainty in strategic regions.

The agenda began with meetings with the Association of Salmon Farmers and the Alliance for the Magallanes Coast —which brings together artisanal fishermen who work with the industry—, where the sector’s sustainability challenges and its impact on the regional value chain were addressed.

In this context, the authority conducted her first visit to a salmon farming plant since taking office, an instance that took place at Blumar’s facilities in Punta Arenas, where she was able to learn firsthand about its operations and productive capacities.

“Very happy to be in Magallanes. We had the opportunity to visit the Blumar plant, it’s impressive what they do in terms of technology and the number of people who work there. It’s very important employment for the region and makes a difference in what can be done in Magallanes and in regions,” said the Deputy Minister.

During the visit, company executives presented an overview of the business, including the number of centers, workers, and current and potential growth capacities, considering the progress of certain regulatory aspects. The day also included a tour of the plant to show its processes and infrastructure on the ground.

Blumar Salmon Business Manager, Pedro Pablo Laporte, expressed “gratitude that the minister took the time to visit us. We were able to show him what salmon farming is in broad strokes and we were tremendously surprised by the minister’s favorable position and willingness to work with the industry here in Magallanes, which has tremendous potential”.

In the same vein, Blumar Magallanes Salmon Regional Manager, Pablo Solís, highlighted the strategic nature of the meeting: “We are happy to have received the minister at our facility and that he got to know our operation, our people, and also the challenges we have ahead to continue growing sustainably. The conversation and presentation we had was key”.

The visit also included the participation of regional authorities, including the presidential delegate of Magallanes, Ericka Farías, and the regional secretary of Economy, Francisco Javier Birke.
