The team from the program led by Fernanda Urrejola traveled to this small rural school in the Los Lagos Region to learn about the collaborative work between Blumar and its educational community.

The team from the Change Factor program, from channel 13C, traveled to the municipality of Hualaihué, in the Los Lagos Region, to learn about the joint work carried out by Blumar and the educational community of Mañihueico School.

What you will see in that program are the initiatives carried out by Blumar in that educational establishment, located near one of our culture centers in the Tenth Region.

That geographical proximity allowed us to learn about the reality of this school, where a single teacher is responsible for teaching 9 children from first to sixth grade. Despite the precariousness of the establishment and the socioeconomic reality of its students, Mañihueico’s small school has stood out in recent years for its Simce score and for the prestige it has built in the municipality.

With that knowledge, we signed a collaboration agreement with them at the end of 2015 to help them obtain their environmental certification, an achievement that was recently accomplished.

This project from Mañihueico School launched the Blumar in Your School program, to which three rural establishments from the Eleventh Region and San Vicente de Talcahuano School were subsequently integrated, with the same objectives.

In addition to advising to achieve certification, our colleagues from Blumar Salmon cooperated with the educational community in different infrastructure improvement works for the school, and in the construction of a greenhouse that was built collaboratively, between company workers and guardians from Mañihueico, based on unused materials from our culture centers. That greenhouse, which was later transformed into the Blumar Eco-Greenhouse project, will be replicated in the other three schools in the south to support their educational project in different subjects related to environmental care to promote on-site learning. This would allow better incorporation of content and a better learning experience.

Blumar Eco-Greenhouse recently obtained position no. 13 during the fourth edition of the Green Latin America Awards, among a total of 2,409 competing projects, and achieved position no. 5 in its Human Development category. This competition held in Ecuador recognizes those environmental initiatives with high impact in the areas where they are executed. It is considered one of the most important initiatives in Latin America.
