– The list prepared by IntraFish highlights that the fact that 2023 has been a challenging year for the sector consolidated different leaderships, among which is the general manager of Blumar, Gerardo Balbontín. 

March 26, 2024. The Seafood Power 100 list seeks to recognize those who have contributed to the innovation, development and profitability of the seafood industry. Blumar’s general manager, Gerardo Balbontín, was highlighted in the global ranking developed by IntraFish. 

The mechanical civil engineer from the University of Santiago is ranked 49th on the list, which highlights that 2023 was one of the most challenging years in decades for the sector, since “almost all elements of the supply chain were under pressure from inflation, reduced consumer spending or social criticism.”

This context has forged and consolidated different types of leadership in the industry, of which IntraFish highlights 100 worldwide. In the case of Balbontín, the media states that its approach has been one of vertical integration and that it runs “one of the largest fishing companies in Chile”, with a presence in different markets worldwide. 

“Leadership does not belong to a particular executive, but to all the teams that make it possible for Blumar to be a resilient company with the capacity to generate value for society. Therefore, this recognition is for the 2 thousand people who are part of this company,” says Balbontín.
