During the activity, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Valdivia (CCIV), Bárbara Henry, said that Blumar is an example to follow in terms of sustainability.
Following Blumar’s recent incorporation into the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Valdivia (CCIV), the President of the entity, Bárbara Henry, together with one of its directors, Rodrigo Echeverría, made a visit to the company’s Flour Plant in Corral to learn details about the production process carried out there.
Prior to the visit to the facilities, they met with the Plant Manager, Carlos Jainaga, and executives from the company’s Sustainability and Environment areas to learn about Blumar’s work in both its fishing and aquaculture areas and, especially, about its community engagement policy.
Bárbara Henry, the first woman to preside over the CCIV in its 110 years of history, stated that the visit is part of the objectives pursued by the entity for 2018, which include the dissemination of experiences from companies that stand out for their good practices in sustainability. “Blumar is an example to follow, especially for the work they do to protect the environment, both in waste treatment and in odor mitigation processes,” she emphasized.
She also highlighted Blumar’s commitment to the residents of Corral, which, she maintained, is evident in the company’s participation in community activities but also in the relationship it maintains with the local artisanal fishermen, who provide almost one hundred percent of the raw material processed at the plant. “This synergy demonstrates how both sectors can work together to contribute to regional development. It is an experience that we will share with our associates because we consider it worthy of imitation in our Region,” expressed Bárbara Henry.
Rodrigo Echeverría, current director and former president of the CCIV, stressed that the case of Blumar helps demonstrate that the Los Ríos Region is not against industry. “Here we could see a harmonious relationship between company and community, which could become an incentive for other companies that want to invest in the area,” he concluded.
