As a result of the red tide crisis, many families in the town of Chayahuê, in the municipality of Calbuco, Los Lagos Region, were directly affected in their sources of income generation. Thus, organized through the Neighborhood Council and the Fishermen and Seaweed Harvesters Union, they approached companies in the sector to request support and mitigate the crisis in some way.

In response to this call, Sealand Aquaculture, Los Fiordos, and Salmones Blumar held a meeting with community leaders in which they committed to providing grocery boxes for 76 families in the sector.

The implementation of aid began on Monday of this week with the delivery of 42 boxes to communities of the Neighborhood Council and the Fishermen’s Union in the Punta Auco and Chayahuê sectors; an event that counted on the participation of the Sustainability and Community Relations Manager of Los Fiordos, Francisco Sandoval, and the Administration and Finance Manager of Sealand Aquaculture, Álvaro Larrañaga.

The activity concluded on Tuesday with the delivery of 20 grocery boxes to several families of the seaweed harvester community in the Punta Tique, Punta Auco, and Abtao sectors, where representatives of Los Fiordos and Sealand Aquaculture also participated.
