Farmed Atlantic salmon from the Magallanes region received a new rating from the Monterey Bay Aquarium through its Seafood Watch program, indicating positive progress to the Yellow List as a good alternative for consumers. 

Regarding this, Blumar’s Commercial Manager for Salmon, Daniel Montoya commented “At Blumar, we take our commitment to sustainable seafood very seriously. We are very excited about this recognition and have worked hard to have Monterey Bay recommend our Magallanes salmon. We have had a solid reputation with our salmon certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council, and now this achievement is an additional boost that will open our doors to customers who monitor our seafood products”.

 For Blumar Farming Manager Pedro Pablo Laporte, this classification symbolizes a major milestone “It is very good news for the industry and for the country. It objectively recognizes that Atlantic salmon production in Magallanes has excellent environmental parameters”.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch creates recommendations that support consumers and companies in choosing ocean-friendly seafood. The guide assigns seafood a rating of red, yellow, or green based on its sustainability and environmental impact. Red is «avoid», yellow is a «good alternative», and green is the «best choice».

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program analyzes environmental indicators related to sea floors, fish diseases, chemical use, feed composition, fish escapes, and impact on ecosystems where farms are located.

This milestone will promote awareness of the origin of our products, including the new Laguna Blanca brand, considering the significant influence these listings have on both professional seafood buyers and consumers.
