– The company and local authority addressed actions to ensure job continuity, strengthen dialogue with the fishing community and advance a joint cooperation plan at the Bahía Caldera Plant.

In a meeting with Caldera’s mayor, Brunilda González, at the public library of the municipality, Blumar reaffirmed its commitment to the community and local economy. The meeting, led by the company’s president, Rodrigo Sarquis, is part of ongoing dialogue with fishermen, boat owners and authorities, and aims to protect employment and advance toward collaborative development for the entire municipality.

Pesquera Bahía Caldera, historically supplied by more than 35 artisanal fishing boats, has been a pillar of economic and social activity in the municipality since its creation. Blumar stressed that, following the conflict with boat owners that temporarily affected the plant’s operations in May, the priority is to restore normalcy in a safe and efficient manner, guaranteeing employment for plant workers and supply to local fishermen.

In that regard, Rodrigo Sarquis stated that “we are convinced that the best way to move forward is by creating a strong social network in Caldera, based on trust, dialogue and mutual understanding. Here are present the community, artisanal fishermen, boat owners and the company. Therefore, we must move this forward and that is done by looking each other in the eye and talking”.

For her part, Mayor Brunilda González valued the instance, stating that “it has been a very positive meeting, first because we had the opportunity to talk with Blumar’s board of directors, who give us the assurance of staying with the industry in the municipality”.

She added that this instance “will strengthen the relationship between boat owners and crew members, as well as everything that lies ahead for Caldera regarding the Fractionation Law, where we will increase capture capacity from three to five times. This is a great opportunity, not only for industrial purse seine fishing, but also for the company itself”.
