• The company received recognition for what was developed, together with San Sebastián University, with the “Blumar Rural Drinking Water School” in the Chucahua community (Huar island).
• Additionally, Rodrigo Sarquis was distinguished for his life dedicated to the fishing and aquaculture industry.

Puerto Varas, November 24, 2023. About 45 projects were presented for the 2023 Salmon Sustainability Awards. The award ceremony, held at the Cumbres Hotel in Puerto Varas, was filled with emotion.

The first category award was won by the initiative “Blumar Rural Drinking Water School”. This project was promoted by Blumar and San Sebastián University; the focus was on installing management capabilities in the Chucahua sector Committee, on Huar island, to increase the efficiency and sustainability of the drinking water service delivered to families.

Blumar Communities Manager, Francisca López, received the award and thanked the local community, who joined this effort and provided “generosity, dedication and warm welcome in each of our activities”.

López also extended “special thanks to Alberto Fernández, the leading academic on this project, with whom, in recent years, we have worked on various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of the communities residing in the areas where we are present”.

For his part, Fernández, who is an academic in Community Outreach at the

Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design at USS, stated that “we are filled with pride by this award”, and added that “this is work of more than a year by several actors: from the university, as executor of the project; from Blumar, which is deeply involved in work with communities, accompanying us in each of our activities; and, above all, it is the distinction to the Chucahua community, on Huar island, which has demonstrated on multiple occasions its commitment to doing things well, to project sustainability, and to building capabilities”.

Extensive trajectory

The event also had space to distinguish people with years of work in the industry. In that framework, Blumar’s president, Rodrigo Sarquis, received the recognition for his trajectory, thanks to his long professional career and his life dedicated to the fishing and aquaculture industry.

 “I am very surprised; I didn’t expect it at all. I have a mixed trajectory of 35 years in the fishing sector and 20 years in the aquaculture sector. It seemed like a very nice distinction to me and that they took notice of me, which should make me one of the last executives to enter this industry”, Sarquis expressed, extending the recognition to the approximately two thousand people who are part of Blumar.
