Blumar strengthens future employment prospects of young people with sixth edition of specialized food safety course

Education & Training
  • 25 students from Liceo María Behety in Punta Arenas were certified, standing out for their participation and acquiring key tools to enhance their employability in the regional food industry.

For the sixth consecutive year, Blumar conducted a food safety course aimed at students specializing in hotel management, gastronomy and aquaculture from Liceo María Behety in Punta Arenas. The initiative, which has become a fundamental milestone in the technical training of young people, achieved an unprecedented level of commitment this year, with nearly perfect attendance and active participation from a total of 25 students.

Food Engineer and instructor at Universidad de Playa Ancha, Nelda Rodríguez Carvajal, course instructor, highlighted the notable evolution in the participants’ attitude: “I noticed a big difference this time, regarding the students’ commitment, in terms of punctuality, which didn’t happen on other occasions. There was participation with 100% attendance, except for two illness situations, with medical certificates and everything”.

The program, which covers fundamental aspects such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standardized Operating Procedures for Sanitation (SOPS), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Food Safety Regulations (RICOL), in addition to complementary topics such as traceability, provides students with a significant competitive advantage in the job market.

Participating students highlighted the practical value of the training for their professional future. Tomás Rojas, a fourth-year student in aquaculture, valued the impact it will have on his employability: “this helps a lot to improve our learning and, above all, in the work aspect, I feel it opens many doors for us”.

For her part, Francisca Moraga, who specializes in hotel management, highlighted the usefulness of the knowledge acquired: “I liked it, because they taught us the basic concepts very clearly. This certification will strengthen my professional résumé, since we are going to graduate with a course that, otherwise, we would have to do later”.

The director of Liceo María Behety, Marcela Andrade, expressed her gratitude to Blumar. “They have been our collaborators and friends for more than six years. This course is absolutely relevant to the training and learning of our students, who can graduate with greater competencies and leave with an added benefit, plus two certifications. I think this generation has taken advantage of the opportunity that you as a company have given them in the best way possible”.

Meanwhile, Blumar Market Manager, Trinidad Amézaga, valued that “it is a tremendous tool for the boys to go out into the job market with something that will distinguish them and give them added value over the rest of competitors in each of the industries, whether it’s hotel management, tourism or aquaculture”. She also added that “we are happy to continue with this course, to hear the words of the professor who says it was an excellent class, that all the boys were super motivated. That gives us the energy to keep making this effort to give them this certification”.
