The certification guarantees that the company has policies, procedures and controls designed to prevent illicit activities such as money laundering and bribery, as contemplated in Law No. 20.393, which establishes the criminal liability of legal entities.
To continue strengthening its commitment to best corporate practices, Blumar Seafoods certified for two years its Crime Prevention Model (CPM) that will allow it to prevent and detect conduct contrary to Law No. 20.393. This regulation, in force in Chile since 2009, establishes the criminal liability of legal entities in the crimes of money laundering, bribery, receiving of stolen goods, and financing of terrorism.
The model validation process was carried out by the Prelafit Compliance consulting firm. The certification was awarded to Blumar S.A., an open stock corporation, and its subsidiaries Salmones Blumar S.A. and Pesquera Bahía Caldera S.A., which form the Blumar Seafoods group.
“With this important achievement, Blumar Seafoods aligns itself with the best corporate practices that are now required at local and global levels and, at the same time, reaffirms our commitment to consolidating ourselves as a model company in the fishing and aquaculture sectors, for which not only the achievement of results matters, but also the way in which these results are made possible”, explained Gerardo Balbontín, General Manager of the company.
The Blumar Seafoods Crime Prevention Model considers a set of tools and control, direction and supervision activities of its various processes, operations and activities, which are exposed to the risks of committing the crimes mentioned in Law No. 20.393.
“To achieve this objective, since last year we initiated a process that included a risk assessment phase, we redefined policies and procedures, enabled a whistleblowing channel, appointed a crime prevention officer by the Board of Directors, among other activities, which allowed us to successfully achieve the implementation and certification of our model, which leaves us very satisfied”, added the General Manager.
In parallel, the company will conduct internal monitoring to ensure not only the implementation and maintenance of its CPM, but also its continuous improvement.
