This double certification adds to the seals and other accreditations obtained by the company, both in the Fishing area and in the salmon plant in Talcahuano, and reaffirms its commitment to caring for its employees.
Puerto Montt-. Once again, Blumar was recognized for its high standards of occupational health and safety, as well as for its good practices, which have managed to create a true preventive culture, based on a high-performance management model of its own creation. On this occasion, the units certified by the Chilean Safety Association (ACHS) were its administrative facilities in Puerto Montt and Aysén, as well as its farming centers in the XI region.
At the certification ceremony, Blumar’s Farming Manager, Pedro Pablo Laporte, stated that -for the company- workplace safety is a fundamental pillar of its daily management. For this reason, he said, “we are grateful for this recognition, which comes to reward the hard work that our employees permanently carry out, led by the company’s Occupational Health and Safety area, as well as to certify our high level of compliance with the standards required by the ILO (International Labour Organization)”.
He added that this alliance with ACHS, signed in February, was an extra boost to the company’s commitment to strengthen its safety strategy, instituting a cultural change, in which managers play a fundamental role, but in which operators, contractors and all employees have much to contribute.
Covid Management Plan
Like the rest of companies, the pandemic imposed major challenges on Blumar, to which the company responded efficiently and effectively, implementing from the beginning of the health crisis demanding Covid-19 protocols, which regulated entry and work functions within its facilities. This rapid response, and the good results obtained, earned it the Covid seal from ACHS as well.
Vicente Romero, Head of Occupational Health and Safety at Blumar in the Los Lagos and Aysén regions, stated: “We are very pleased to have obtained these two important recognitions. On the one hand, the certification of our high-performance occupational health and safety management system, which was created with a strategy different from traditional approaches and with high standards to ensure compliance with international and national requirements with scope covering our own personnel and contractors, and the obtaining of the Covid Seal, which recognizes our company as an organization that has a successful management plan for the prevention of Covid-19 contagion”.
For his part, ACHS representative Christian Cáceres highlighted the efforts of all sectors within Blumar to generate a prevention culture that ensures the safety and well-being of all its employees. “The company’s occupational health and safety management system reflects the daily work of the preventive technical team, the heads and assistants of the centers, the joint committees and the workers themselves in order to respond positively to the multiple safety challenges that arise on a daily basis. Likewise, we have recognized its successful management regarding the prevention of Covid contagion within its facilities and in each of its operations, certifying all Blumar Salmon farming centers in the Aysén region, as well as its headquarters in Puerto Montt”.
Thus, Blumar reaffirms its commitment to the care and safety of its employees, who are a fundamental part of the company’s Sustainability Strategy.
