Punta Arenas, July 7, 2022. Strengthening technical-professional education has been one of Blumar’s objectives since its arrival in Magallanes. Since 2018, various talks have been held that allow the company’s workers to share their experience with students from the aquaculture specialty at María Behety High School.

During the pandemic, this process was replaced by audiovisual capsules. With the return to classes, workers returned to the classrooms to explain the various processes in the culture centers. How is the feeding process?, What is the work like in a culture center?, How is the harvest process carried out?, were part of the questions they were able to clarify during the month of June.

 One of the participating students was Marco Llalef, who highlighted that “the talk is good and interesting to learn more about aquaculture, harvests, procedures, everything”.

For Manuel González, head of the aquaculture specialty at María Behety High School, “the talks have a super positive impact on students, because it motivates them, it also shows them from another angle the vision of what aquaculture is, since at the high school what we can tell and show them is not that much. However, when professionals from the industry come, especially from Blumar, the truth is that they are very motivated and it helps us teachers too”.

            One of the professionals was Francisco Riquelme, harvest manager of Blumar Magallanes, who has former students from the high school in his team. “From the first talks, we have people working with us who have had very good performance at Blumar Magallanes. When you see that students are interested, they ask you questions and participate in the talk you are giving, you realize that there really is interest in the industry and in what they are studying”, the executive pointed out.

Likewise, Pablo Solís, production submanager of Blumar Magallanes, highlighted that “with María Behety High School we have had an alliance since we arrived in the Region, where we have seen the development of young people reflected, supporting them both in their training and in their vocational development and also with the possibility of offering internships in the culture centers. So resuming these classes in person, being with them and seeing each other face to face for us and them is super important to share and develop the activity”.

During the second semester, Blumar Magallanes will continue carrying out this exchange of experience, which will be complemented by a field visit in which they will be able to know and experience what it is like to be in a culture center.
