Talcahuano March 29, 2023. This Wednesday, Blumar announced the results corresponding to the fourth quarter of 2022, where it detailed the performance during the previous year, in which it posted profits of US$ 63 million, representing a 31% growth compared to 2021.

In terms of revenues, the company reported US$ 659 million in 2022, 5% more than in 2021, composed of US$ 403 million from the aquaculture segment and US$ 256 million from the fishing segment. Between both businesses, they posted pre-adjustment Ebitda fair value of US$ 129 million, which means 29% more than the previous year.

“The results with which we close this year show that we have managed to consolidate our position in the various markets in which we participate and that we have been able to address sustained demand for sustainable seafood products from consumers. That is why we view 2023 with great optimism, where we expect to continue with a growth trajectory, both in fishing and salmon,” commented Blumar’s general manager, Gerardo Balbontín.

The aquaculture segment consolidated the improvement that had been occurring following the global health crisis, as during 2022 it recorded revenues of US$ 403 million, which represented 61% of consolidated revenues. The good results of this segment are explained, in part, by better prices and the recovery of demand in the main salmon markets that began during the second half of 2021.

Meanwhile, the fishing segment represented more than 60% of the company’s earnings in 2022, which were driven by higher sales and better prices of the products offered by the company.  For its part, frozen jack mackerel, which represented 13% of consolidated revenues, highlights the increase in jack mackerel destined for human consumption during 2022, reaching 83.9%, a result that shows a favorable trend compared to the 83.4% obtained in 2021.

“Jack mackerel is one of the best examples that the changes made at the industry level since 2013, which together with current legislation regulating the fishing sector, have had a positive impact on the sustainability of fisheries. This has led the team of scientists who are members of the SPRFMO to steadily increase the jack mackerel quota worldwide, which for 2023 increased the global jack mackerel quota by 20%. This allows maintaining sustainable development of this resource and providing healthy food alternatives to people,” Balbontín detailed.

At the consolidated level, the company reported increases in revenue, pre-fair value adjustment EBITDA, and net income during the second quarter and first half of 2026, driven primarily by the fishing segment and the recognition of U.S. tariff refunds in the salmon segment.
