“This is the economy of the future”, highlighted Mauricio Henríquez
The Energy Regional Minister of the Bío Bío Region, Mauricio Henríquez, visited the Blumar plant in Talcahuano to learn about its productive processes, which involve clean energy, “which translates into very good news for the Bío Bío region and for the country”.
The visit comes after Blumar Seafoods announced last April that all its subsidiaries will use 100% clean energy in their productive processes, thanks to an agreement signed with Enel Generación that allowed the company to change its energy matrix to be supplied only by clean energy from renewable sources, such as wind, solar, geothermal or hydroelectric. This milestone involves Blumar Seafoods and its subsidiaries PacificBlu, St. Andrews and Frío Pacífico obtaining a certification and green seal, which among other benefits will bring: energy traceability; certification of origin and ownership; minimization of environmental and social impact; sustainability management with a model in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, specifically with objective 13 on Climate Action.
Raúl Hermosilla, Blumar’s People Manager, thanked the Energy Regional Minister, Mauricio Henríquez, for his visit and the interest shown in the company’s recent actions. “We are filled with pride by the visit of authorities and the doors are always open to receive them. In complex times like those we are experiencing today, working in line to strengthen ourselves is very beneficial. Today we are proud to work with 100% clean energy, it is a concrete action that is in line with our sustainability strategy and the commitment we have”, he commented.
The visit also included a brief presentation of the company and its national coverage, the value chain in both areas in which it is involved: fishing and salmon farming, as well as the scope of work carried out by obtaining the HuellaChile seal, the sustainability strategy, as well as Climate Change and the implementation of different Covid protocols promoted by the company since the beginning of the pandemic.
“Fishing is one of Chile’s most important industrial sectors, which is why it is important to visit Blumar, one of the example companies in the Bío Bío region, which has joined the economy of the future, sustainability, and I highlight this specific example since the company is consuming 100% of its non-conventional renewable energy. Today, from the Energy Ministry we make a call to bring together all productive sectors to join this circular economy”. He added that after the visit he was pleasantly surprised by the work of the Salmon Plant, a highly automated operation and an example for the region, highlighted the Energy Regional Minister of the Bío Bío Region, Mauricio Henríquez.
