This is a recognition that this year was delivered for the first time by the port municipality to companies and institutions in the commune that stand out for their contribution to environmental care and sustainable development of their territory.

(Talcahuano, June 6, 2016) As part of the commemoration of World Environment Day, the municipality of Talcahuano distinguished the company Blumar with the Environmental Heritage Recovery Award 2016, a recognition that this commune delivers for the first time to companies that stand out for the development of environmental initiatives for the benefit of the population.

The distinction to this company is due to the concern that Blumar has shown in maintaining permanent communication and work with the communities that are part of its surroundings, which translates into active participation in the tripartite tables of Talcahuano and San Vicente, led by the municipality and which also include companies and neighbors, in order to encourage good environmental practices and the development of joint work that results in improving the quality of life of the inhabitants who reside in sectors adjacent to its areas of operation in the port.

“This award has to do with the meritorious work that Blumar has developed as part of its community engagement policy, which has resulted in concrete actions to improve the spaces that are part of its surroundings. We want this recognition to serve as a call to attention so that other companies operating in our commune continue on this path that Blumar is carrying out as a way to contribute to the sustainability of Talcahuano”, explained Mayor Gastón Saavedra.

The director of Environment of the municipality, Guillermo Rivera, explained that the environmental heritage of Talcahuano, made up of the air, soil, water and flora and fauna of the commune, is an asset that the municipality protects through various actions, but that in this task the participation of the private sector is fundamental. “In the case of Blumar we highlight the respect shown to the environmental requirements of the commune and also its integration with the community which, without a doubt, made it deserving of this recognition”, he concluded.

In the awards ceremony, where local authorities, representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises, neighborhood leaders and various actors from the port community participated, the Association of Fishing Industrialists, Asipes and Pesquera Landes were also awarded for their contribution to environmental care in the city.
