– The company achieved billing of US$ 132.7 million in the period, which represented 15% more than the same period in 2020, driven especially by the fishing segment which registered an increase of 31%, reaching US$ 57.3 million.
This Friday, Blumar presented the results of the first quarter of this year, recording profits of US$ 3.6 million, which represents an increase of US$ 3.3 million compared to the same period in 2020.
“The results show good performance in the fishing segment, which reflects the good state of the fishing resources in which we have participation and the sustainability of the business in the long term. On the other hand, in the aquaculture sector, there is a decrease of 21% in the price of Atlantic salmon, since the comparison period corresponds to before the beginning of the pandemic, when prices were at a good level; while in the first quarter of this year, prices have recovered from the depressed level they reached during the pandemic, but which are currently rising and with very good projection for the rest of this year”, indicated Gerardo Balbontín, general manager of Blumar Seafoods, highlighting that the fishing segment of the company “is going through a very good moment”.
As of March 31, 2021, consolidated revenues were US$ 132.7 million, of which 57% came from the aquaculture segment, whose main product is Atlantic salmon, and 43% from the fishing business, where fish meal and fish oil represented 11%, frozen jack mackerel 23% and products derived from white fish 9%.
The fishing segment presented Ebitda of US$ 22 million at the close of the first quarter of 2021, higher by US$ 8.3 million compared to the same period in 2020. This situation is mainly explained by an increase in the sales volume of frozen jack mackerel, which registered an increase in its average sales price.
Meanwhile, the aquaculture sector had billing of US$ 75.4 million, with an increase of 4% compared to January-March of last year. The 32% increase in harvested volume stands out, which is attributed to the full operation entry of Magallanes, which in turn presents excellent health, operational and cost performance.
