– The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Seal is awarded by Huella Chile, a program of the Ministry of the Environment that distinguished the facilities that produce fishmeal in the Biobío Region.

The sustainability strategy of Blumar, a fishing and salmon company, has resilience to climate change as one of its work focuses. Thus, one of its objectives is the reduction of the carbon footprint in its different operations. One of them is the San Vicente Flour Plant, in Concepción, which reduced its carbon footprint by 37%, taking 2018 as a baseline, within the framework of the Huella Chile program, of the Ministry of the Environment.

“Throughout these years, we have obtained recognition with the program’s Reduction Seal on four occasions, thanks to the project that involved the gradual replacement of the energy supply for the fixed sources of the San Vicente Flour Plant,” commented Blumar’s Environmental Engineer, María José Zagal.

Given the progress the company has made, Huella Chile awarded recognition to one of Blumar’s facilities, highlighting the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability in its processes. This is the fourth time that the Flour Plant located in San Vicente has received the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Seal. Compliance with the requirements to obtain the seal is verified by ABS Quality Evaluations, a world leader in certification.

The head of the San Vicente Flour Plant, Matías Durán, explained that “this achievement is based on three fundamental pillars. Firstly, at Blumar we have chosen to invest in more efficient combustion systems. In addition, we have replaced the fuels used for steam generation, going from heavy oil to natural gas and diesel.”

“Finally, we have implemented operational excellence, which has allowed us to reduce our specific fuel consumption, being more energy efficient and more respectful of our environment,” said Durán.
