– The recognition delivered by ACHS consisted of audits of preventive management in occupational safety and health, whose compliance was almost 100% in the Fishing and Salmon segments.
Following comprehensive advisory from the Chilean Safety Association (ACHS), which consisted of documentary and on-site audits, Blumar obtained certification of its occupational safety management system in its Fishing and Salmon segments. The company achieved 99% compliance across all its facilities, so its accreditation reached the level of excellence. This milestone brings the company closer to its 2030 objective in this matter: zero accidents in all areas.
ACHS coordinating expert, Eduardo Lillo Arias, stated that Blumar “has a very high percentage of compliance, above industry compliance”. For this reason, he valued “the importance (the company) gives to safety”, since “Blumar is not only focused on complying with current regulations, but is actually advancing towards a safety culture”.
“There is projected work with very demanding goals, accompanied by the work that the corporate has been doing in relation to providing all the resources and tools so that Safety departments can have achievable goals aimed at zero accidents”, added Lillo.
ACHS head of Preventive Services for the salmon industry, Felipe Quintul, noted that the result obtained by that area of the company “is the highest that we deliver in the ACHS comprehensive advisory model, which is systematization of preventive management in occupational safety and health, both with compliance practically 100% throughout the entire process, both the documentary audit and the on-site audit”.
Along those lines, the head of the Safety and Occupational Health Department of Blumar Salmon Magallanes, Marcelo Concha, stated that “we are on our way to operational excellence”.
The head of Safety and Occupational Health at Blumar in the Los Lagos and Aysén regions, Marco Antonio Ojeda, commented that “the unification of the Safety and Occupational Health departments that occurred in 2023 was key to generating these advances and aiming higher in safety”.
On the other hand, the head of the Safety and Occupational Health Department of the Fishing area, Claudia Abello, indicated that “during the first half we are going to start implementing the Workforce program, focused on operational and field work, with a more short-term response. Likewise, we will continue with the implementation of the Dekra system, a long-term program that will take us all this year and next”.
The Fishing Operations Manager, José Ocares, noted that this work “will demand greater effort from our team, greater awareness from workers and continued provision of resources and support from management so that this comes to a successful conclusion”.
