Blumar Magallanes adds new PROA certification to Pérez de Arce farming center

Sustainability
  • The certification, delivered by SERNAPESCA indicates that, according to a strict monitoring protocol by the authority, the center did not use antimicrobials, marking a new milestone in Blumar Magallanes’ productive results.

Friday, July 9, 2021.- Blumar Magallanes once again obtained certification from the Program for the Optimization of Antimicrobial Use, PROA, delivered by Sernapesca.

This time, it corresponds to the Pérez de Arce farming center, located in the Río Verde commune.

In this way, the Atlantic salmon farming center joins Canal Bertrand, which was the first to receive this Sernapesca certification, becoming the second in the Magallanes subsidiary to obtain this seal.

“It is a great achievement for the company to have a second PROA certified center. We are proud that two of the three farming centers that currently hold this seal delivered by Sernapesca for the salmon species are from Blumar. This result motivates us and at the same time challenges us to continue working to add more antibiotic-free certifications, which adds competitiveness to our company and the industry, showing that progress is being made toward more sustainable production objectives”, stated Pedro Pablo Laporte, Farming Manager of Blumar Salmon.

The Program for the Optimization of Antimicrobial Use conducts monitoring throughout the entire production cycle at the farming centers, from the freshwater phase, and includes supervision of health strategy, vaccination plans, fish diets, etc.

“As a team we are very pleased to have a second farming center in Magallanes with fish that were never treated with antibiotics, neither in the freshwater cycle during their first 10 months, nor in the sea cycle, in the following 18 months. This reaffirms that we are on the right path, in line with the company’s strategy of supplying the minimum amount of antibiotics to our salmon and of always having the availability of an important fraction of production in Magallanes with a product never treated”, commented Ignacio Covacevich, regional manager of Blumar in Magallanes.

Finally, he highlighted the commitment of all employees of the company, who made this new achievement possible for the Magallanes subsidiary. “This certification reaffirms the work carried out by the entire Blumar Magallanes team, which throughout the entire cycle was concerned with the welfare of the fish, monitoring their condition, planning the health strategy, and very coordinated in logistics, to meet the deadlines for transferring food to the salmon and in operations, vital to the production process”, Ignacio Covacevich concluded.
