– “We nourish people honoring the ocean” is the company’s new purpose, which was presented at an event simultaneously with collaborators from the seven regions where the company operates. The activity was led by Blumar’s president, Rodrigo Sarquis, and by the general manager, Gerardo Balbontín.
Talcahuano, December 26, 2022. “We are projecting the company’s future as a leader in seafood production. Our history is marked by a deep bond with the ocean and that is where we continue to see the opportunity to contribute to society, generating value for people”, said Blumar’s general manager, Gerardo Balbontín, at an event in Talcahuano simultaneously with the seven regions where it operates and its more than two thousand collaborators, where the company’s new purpose and a brand rebranding were unveiled.
“We nourish people honoring the ocean” is the purpose that Blumar defined after 1 year of work, with which it will seek to inspire the entire company’s value chain for the production and commercialization of seafood. “This purpose takes charge of more than 70 years of history linked to the sea and which have positioned us as one of the most important fishing and salmon companies in Chile. We want to take charge of that history to promote a future where we feel proud of what we do”, said Blumar’s board president, Rodrigo Sarquis.
Blumar has a presence in seven regions of Chile, from Atacama to Magallanes, where it is dedicated to pelagic fishing, especially the commercialization and export of frozen jack mackerel and salmon harvesting for important destinations such as Japan and Brazil. It has offices in Europe, the United States and China, from where it seeks to strengthen the commercialization of marine products that have high quality and sustainability standards, such as MSC and MarinTrust in the case of fishing and ASC and BAP in salmon, which allows it to reach the most demanding markets.
“It’s not just a statement”
After unveiling the new purpose, the company’s general manager, Gerardo Balbontín, assured that “the statement is not just a declaration, but rather it is the commitment we make after following a path that has given us a leadership position in Chile’s fishing and aquaculture activity. This is reflected in our results and in the opinion of our clients, which is why we now want to take a step that makes our indivisible relationship with the ocean visible to everyone, honoring and caring for it so that it continues to be a prosperous source of food for the world”.
The purpose also seeks to align with the work that the company began 5 years ago, when it decided to unite its sustainability strategy with its business strategy, marking a change in perspective on the company’s relationship with the environment and nature. “It has been a quiet path, but with concrete actions that today project us as a company with high standards of sustainability and environmental care”, emphasized Balbontín.
Blumar, Origin 1948
At the event, the company also unveiled a new corporate image that features the Pacific Ocean. With simple typography and using white and deep blue colors, the logo and its applications seek to project the company’s future, expressing the union between the fishing and salmon units through a unique visual identity.
“Our new identity is simple, transparent and focused on the sea, which represents our values and gives meaning to the new purpose. We wanted to take the elements typical of our activity, such as boats, ropes, freshness and ice from the southern seas, to incorporate them into a proposal that will show Chile in international markets as a power dedicated to seafood production”, commented Gerardo Balbontín
The new image also refers to the company’s origin, which was born 11 years ago after the merger of El Golfo and Itata companies, which shaped Blumar. “Declaring that our origin begins in 1948 allows us to recognize the work of families who migrated and built an industry from scratch, which has given prosperity to Chile and has allowed us to leverage our potential as a country with fishing and aquaculture vocation”, stated Blumar’s president, Rodrigo Sarquis.
