  • The space, which will open to the public in August, will sell salmon at accessible prices for Magallanes residents and will feature a meeting place for activities with communities around gastronomic culture and salmon farming.

Punta Arenas, July 12, 2022. This Tuesday, salmon farming and fishing company Blumar inaugurated “Mercado Blumar” in the Magallanes Region, which will become the company’s first experience center in the country. Through this space, the aim is to bring salmon closer to the communities where they work and carry out multiple culinary and educational activities with them in this space.

The inauguration was attended by the Regional Economy Secretary, Ruth Saieh, the mayor of Río Verde, Sabina Ballesteros, representatives of tourism trade associations and communities with which Blumar has built a relationship over the last four years. They were able to enjoy the preparations made by renowned chef Paula Larenas, who will also conduct activities during the week for local residents.

Blumar’s general manager, Gerardo Balbontín, mentioned that “we have put all our efforts and dedication into building this space, where we want all Magallanes residents to be able to live experiences and enjoy a healthy and nutritious product that was cultivated in the beautiful sea of this region. The idea is to bring salmon closer to all our neighbors, in order to work together so that Blumar continues to move forward towards a future in a sustainable and responsible way with our communities”.

This experience center, from August onwards, will be pioneering in commercializing salmon at accessible prices for all residents of the Magallanes Region. In addition, from this week onwards it will become a meeting point with communities, in order to generate activities around gastronomic culture.

“Today a dream that we had as a team materializes since we began operating in the Region in 2018. Mercado Blumar will not only be a store, but this will be the first experience center, where we seek through cooking, which we know is a traditional place for Magallanes families, to bring the community closer to our industry, spreading our processes, highlighting the work carried out by each member of the Blumar team”, said Blumar Magallanes production sub-manager, Pablo Solís.

It is worth noting that Mercado Blumar was designed with local and representative materials that were used for its construction, such as lenga wood, sheepskin and pieces made by local artisans, such as rushwork. Additionally, its walls feature recycled plastic slats from waste from the salmon farming sector.

“Magallanes is part of the Blumar family, and we are proud to be able to celebrate the opening of Mercado Blumar together with everyone who is part of the company. From those who process the products to those who work in the culture centers, everyone was fundamental in achieving this project” concluded Blumar’s general manager, Gerardo Balbontín.
