A positive sign has been delivered by 10 major companies regarding the certification of safety protocols implemented to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 contagion in the Bío Bío region
With an internal ceremony, Blumar received recognition of the COVID-19 Management Seal issued by the Chilean Safety Association (ACHS). The fishing area was the first to be certified, with six of its facilities, specifically the San Vicente Meal Plants, Frozen Jack Mackerel Plant, Bay and Fleet, Rocuant Frozen Plants, Coronel Meal Plant and the Golondrinas Finished Products Warehouse, in Talcahuano.
This seal seeks to verify compliance with the requirements established by the Ministry of Health and the Superintendence of Social Security (SUSESO) for pandemic control in large companies.
Blumar’s Fishing Operations Manager, José Ocares, commented that since the beginning of the pandemic more than a year ago, various safety protocols began to be implemented. Recently, ACHS incorporated itself as the new mutual company for the enterprise, and undergoing certification was a process that served to reinforce that things were being done correctly.
ACHS has an accreditation system for COVID 19 control measures for its member companies. “We are pleased because they positively evaluated the Contagion Control Management System implemented by Blumar. We are very proud because, given the complexity of our operations with six processing plants plus our fleet, we have high control standards that have allowed us to maintain operational continuity thanks to the effort and commitment of everyone. I especially highlight the cultural change in our collaborators”. On one hand, the company provides all pertinent measures and collaborators are responsible in their private behavior, to return to their shifts without contagion and thus take care of each other in their work. Our standards were fully complied with, which is why we were certified quickly”, Ocares highlighted, who added that “We have managed to operate during full fishing season while minimizing risks with appropriate logistics in different shifts and processes, thus contributing to controlling potential contagion.
For ACHS Bío Bío Sub-Manager of Operations, Cynthia García, adding a new company with this certification allows for peace of mind for the general population. “Upon entering as a new mutual company for Blumar, we started with an audit process and we verified the protocols and observed that the organization complied with all regulations regarding pandemic preventive measures. We were able to certify as ACHS, and deliver a seal that verifies that they comply with current regulations and with additional instances as an organization that allow them to care for their workers preventing contagion”.
She highlighted that among the benefits are the permanent audits by ACHS, accompanying and verifying compliance with the process every month to thus transmit to the entire organization that safeguarding and care for workers is maintained.
In the near future, the other areas of Blumar will be certified, always with the spirit of maintaining the highest standards and protocols regarding the safety of all collaborators.
