• Children and young people received a motivational talk from former tennis player Horacio de la Peña in a virtual ceremony.

 Blumar Seafoods held the traditional scholarship awards ceremony for the children of its collaborators from the Fishing and Salmon areas, who stood out for their school performance in Basic, Secondary, and Higher Education cycles.

Blumar’s General Manager, Gerardo Balbontín, in his opening remarks, highlighted that this scholarship award is a tradition that has been in place for more than 20 years in the company and as such “a source of pride for all of us who work here”.

In a virtual ceremony, 39 children and young people received the recognition, many of them accompanied by their parents and very enthusiastic about hearing the motivational words of Horacio de la Peña, former tennis player and elite athlete coach, who spoke to them about how good education is a key factor in planning for the future. “There is no doubt that studying during a pandemic has been doubly difficult, however, new opportunities have also emerged”, said the coach, who emphasized that reaching success is a first stage, however, maintaining it is even more difficult, so he urged young people to increase their demands by 15% so they could be in the top positions again next year.

The recognition diploma was received by outstanding students belonging to the Collective Agreement of Employees, the Collective Agreement of the Union of Crew Members and Unloaders, the Industrial Union, the Blumar Salmon Union, the Salmon Plant Union, the Jack Mackerel Plant Workers, the Union of Temporary Workers of the Jack Mackerel Plant, and the Corral Union.

Among the attendees, a Tablet and three surprise prizes were raffled off and at the end, Blumar’s Human Resources Manager, Raúl Hermosilla, expressed his happiness about the incentive given to the children of Blumar collaborators. “We are a great family, with more than 2 thousand human beings who day after day put in our effort to move forward”, he said and added that behind every good student there is a committed family and the example of effort from their parents.
