Blumar Seafoods, throughout its history, has incorporated support for education into its community engagement initiatives and does so in all regions where it operates. Among these programs, “Blumar in your School” stands out, an initiative mainly aimed at primary education, with work focused on obtaining environmental certification from the educational institutions involved.

Another line of action involves agreements with technical-professional high schools, where two examples stand out this week. The first is the course “Safety for personnel working on larger vessels with habitability”, which was taught to 19 students from Liceo Arturo Prat Chacón, in 3rd and 4th year high school, in the Aquaculture specialty, in Puerto Cisnes, XI Region.

Carolina Vera, Head of Human Resources at Blumar Aysén, said that the activity is part of community support with the installation of new capabilities. “We are interested in strengthening the training of students in the aquaculture specialty, helping them fulfill some items of the study program they have on a regular basis”.

The acting director of Liceo Arturo Prat Chacón thanked the opportunity provided by Blumar. “This instance has allowed us to provide better tools to students, with which they will be able to perform at a work level, with better preparation”, he said and added that this support has been fundamental in preventing students from becoming discouraged during these pandemic times.

It is noteworthy that in the specialty there are 10 women participating in the course. Catalina Méndez from Fourth Year TP said she was grateful for the opportunity provided. “Undoubtedly it was an enriching course in knowledge and safety that will help us graduate from 4th year high school better prepared for the working world”, said the student.

Another milestone was the recognition meeting held by the educational community of the Polivalent High School: Capitán de Fragata Francisco Vidal Gormaz in Maullín, which is following the ROV operator course.

Rafael Morales, instructor, thanked Blumar for the training opportunity. “It is very important for us, education assistants, students, and teachers, to understand underwater robotics and its contribution to salmon farming, as it has helped reduce the risks of decompressive sickness in divers who conduct inspections”.

Constanza Maldonado, a fourth year high school student, highlighted her motivation for participating. “When the world seemed to be at a standstill, we had this opportunity, which hopefully will be maintained over time, so that more classmates can receive this training and access the job market”.

Raúl Hermosilla, Blumar’s People Manager, highlighted the company’s commitment to education, because “we believe it is the only way to overcome the barrier of underdevelopment and move forward. We are convinced that the effort, mainly in remote places like Maullín, should be highlighted and supported, especially when it is done hand in hand with the technologies that the industry requires”, he said and added that this training will allow them to have a differentiating element when it comes to accessing employment.
