Through a virtual ceremony, which included the participation of the Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Alicia Gallardo, deputies Marcos Ilabaca, Bernardo Berger; Iván Flores and senator Ena Von Baer, the delivery of economic contributions was carried out to finance higher education for young people linked to the sea.

Blumar delivered 27 educational scholarships for 35 young people belonging to fishing coves in the Los Ríos Region, reaffirming its commitment to fishing communities in the area.

In a ceremony that took place virtually due to health conditions, Blumar Seafoods’ Fishing Operations Manager, José Ocares, highlighted that "the company is very pleased to be part of this initiative continuously for more than 20 years, as it provides a direct benefit to the inhabitants of the fishing coves of Amargos, Niebla, Corral, Chaihuin, Isla Mancera, Huape, and Huiro".

“We feel very integrated in Corral, as an industry we established ourselves several years ago  and our commitment to the community has been permanent. We are sensitive to the reality of eight fishing coves and their families, that’s why the contribution for their children makes a lot of sense to us. We don’t want anyone to stop studying due to lack of resources” added the Blumar representative.

For his part, the president of Quinta Sur of the Interregional Federation of Artisanal Fishermen of the South, Marcos Ide, mentioned “this scholarship was born with the arrival of the fishing company to the area, with whom an agreement is signed with the artisanal fishing fleet that initially was for high school students because very few reached higher education,  but over time it became a scholarship for higher education".

"Thanks to the goodwill of many and good relationships with the industry, we have been able, throughout all these years, to help the children of the most needy fishermen. This year due to the pandemic and the needs of the sector, all the young people who applied received the scholarship which is delivered in two installments" Ide concluded in his presentation.
