– The company received the international IREC renewable energy certification at all its plants and subsidiaries, which guarantees the origin of the energy sources used in them.

            Talcahuano, August 11, 2022. Blumar and its subsidiaries received IREC certifications at all its plants, confirming the supply of 100% renewable energy, following the agreement signed in 2021 with Enel Generación, through which they committed to provide the company with a volume of 72 GWh annually for the next 4 years. This agreement will allow savings of over 30% in electricity costs.

            The IREC is an international certificate that guarantees the origin of renewable energy sources used in the plants, is recommended in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and aims to promote clean energy in companies.

            Blumar’s General Manager, Gerardo Balbontín, mentioned, upon receiving the certificates, that “this is one of the most relevant milestones we have had as a company in the path we started several years ago, implementing a long-term sustainability strategy, where we can address climate change and have a business that goes hand in hand with environmental care”.

            For his part, Enel Generación’s Commercial Manager, Pedro de la Sotta, indicated that “the concept of moving to renewable and green energy has been around for about a year, where we have achieved traceability and, therefore, it is known that each electron that Blumar consumes comes from a renewable energy source. This is a contribution that is auditable by third parties and can also be placed in a quantification of their carbon footprint, which ultimately benefits the final product, which can be recognized internationally”.

            It was in April 2021 when Blumar immediately transformed its energy matrix to 100% Non-Conventional Renewable Sources, simultaneously throughout the entire company and its subsidiaries, which was reflected in the first integrated report published by the company during this year.

            This is one of the multiple commitments the company has made to sustainability, where also 100% of the facilities obtained the carbon footprint quantification seal from the Chile Footprint Program, being included for the first time the salmon farming centers in the Aysén and Magallanes regions.

             Additionally, Blumar defined a strategy with the intention of increasing waste management and valorization so that, by 2027, 80% of it is valorized in a circular economy scheme.
