The fishing and salmon farming company Blumar celebrated its 75th anniversary at the Suractivo events center in Concepción, where hundreds of attendees gathered to commemorate the company’s trajectory in the sectors it has been involved in since the merger between El Golfo and Itata in 2011.
Blumar’s board president, Rodrigo Sarquis, highlighted that “we are very happy, there are few companies in the country that can say they have 75 years of history and, above all, in a sector related to water, especially in fishing and salmon farming. It has been a path with many benefits, but also with many challenges, which has created a history that is very important for us to tell for the next generations that will be part of this company”.
Among those present, the presence of the company’s founding families stood out: Sarquis, Noguera, Santa Cruz, Yaconi and Vinagre. Additionally, the governor of the Biobío region, Rodrigo Diaz, the mayor of Talcahuano, Henry Campos, and deputy Roberto Arroyo attended the event.
It was in 1948 when Itata was founded, a fishing company founded by Jorge Sarquis, and in 1962 El Golfo was born, a company in the same sector that in 1986 was acquired by Mario Vinagre, Hugo Yaconi, Manuel Santa Cruz, Jaime Santa Cruz and Ernesto Noguera. Both organizations merged in 2011 to create Blumar, one of the leading companies in fishing and aquaculture in Chile.
Blumar’s general manager, Gerardo Balbontín, indicated that “it has been a very moving ceremony, where we wanted to recognize the trajectory of the people who founded Blumar and those who have worked practically their entire lives in this company. These instances serve to look to the past and project the vision we have for the future, where we have many expectations to continue growing with the people who day after day give their best in their work”.
“Celebrating Blumar’s 75 years fills us with pride, because it has been a company that has not only provided employment, but has also taken charge of sustainability in resource extraction, allowing it to maintain a company that endures over time and provides stable jobs with good compensation, in addition to having a deep social vocation by engaging with the community and the development of the localities where they are located”, emphasized Talcahuano’s mayor, Henry Campos.
Recognition of significance
At the event, the company recognized founders and employees who have worked between 35 and 40 years within the company. One of them was the head of the Blumar Salmon Plant in Talcahuano, Pierre Chlipalski, who has been working at the company for 39 years and after being recognized mentioned that “it is a story of feeling accompanied by the company, which always supports you and gives you the autonomy to make the decisions that are within my reach, also supporting you in difficulties. It is truly a family to me”.
“I have been with the company for 35 years, I have spent my entire life here. This has allowed me to form my family, my home and raise my children too. Once I finished studying, my first job was Blumar and since then I have not had another job. It has been very rewarding, not only because of job stability, but also in human terms”, said Mauricio Rosales.
