This year-end, 40 women from Talcahuano participated in the “Holiday Pastry” workshop, “it was 100 hours of in-person pedagogical sessions where residents of the port municipality were able to learn and also update their knowledge during a time of year when many achieve extra income thanks to their ventures.
Within the framework of a strategic alliance between INFOCAP and the Association of Fishing Industrialists, ASIPES, an agreement was reached to deploy training programs that will benefit people from Talcahuano and Coronel. Felipe Hormazábal, Blumar’s Sub-Manager of Sustainability and Health & Safety, said that with an initial investment, this training program was launched, and will resume in 2022. “As a company we joined Asipes’ initiative because we understand that training is very important, and it is our way of responding and contributing to local development where our plants are operating. When we interact with our community we listen to their needs and contribute through investment in quality training, along with strategic alliances with different stakeholders in the territory that allow us to respond to people as they deserve”.
The director of INFOCAP’s Biobío headquarters, Simón Acuña, highlighted the enthusiasm of the participants. “It was a very good experience because the activity aimed to support a concrete and real need to generate income through learning new trends in holiday products”. The alliance has allowed us to work, in a first stage, with the communities.
Katherine Vidal, a resident of the Libertad neighborhood in Talcahuano, was very happy with the course, which she found out about from a Facebook post. “It has been a great opportunity. I started without knowing anything and now I am able to even make a cake, we learned several recipes that I executed in my house and I took the opportunity to sell to my neighbors and family”, said this 33-year-old dental assistant, who works sporadically as a replacement, and who found an opportunity to generate income for her family. I hope more courses like these come, with teachers as good as the ones we had. They are an opportunity to keep growing and every hour invested in learning was worth it”, she said.
