The program delivers recycled plastic composters made from waste from aquaculture centers in order to promote concepts and habits associated with recycling and environmental education, among others. The composters are being delivered to four schools in the Los Lagos and Aysén regions.
Following the complicated situation faced by most schools and students in the country due to the pandemic, this year Blumar decided to support the school year of Mañihueico Rural School, Carlos Condell School of Caleta Andrade, Divine Providence Mother School of Puerto Gala, and Our Lady of Divine Providence School of Puerto Gaviota, through the delivery of composters and all associated supplies.
The proposal developed jointly with FUE and Regenera Orgánico includes four videos that explain each of the steps to use and efficiently activate the composter. In this way, organic matter from the homes of families in the school community will be transformed, and then the compost can be extracted to nourish community gardens and green spaces.
The Greenspot composters were designed using recycled material from salmon industry cultivation centers with the intention of delivering a product following circular economy guidelines.
“At Blumar we maintain a constant commitment to our communities and environmental education of students with whom we work under the ‘Blumar at Your School’ program. The pandemic posed a great challenge where we did not want to stop being part of it and work on a project to provide schools with a composter made from recycled material from cultivation centers,” commented Blumar’s Communities Manager, Francisca López.
FUE Project Manager, María Elena Ramdohr, stated that “the purpose of this project is to educate children, showing them that a new useful life can be given to organic waste from their homes. It is a very easy-to-use composter that will bring many benefits to the community since the compost extracted from the process is an excellent fertilizer. Together with Blumar and Regenera Orgánico we have worked hard to make this project a reality.”
For her part, the director of Mañihueico Rural School, Yolanda Ruiz stated that “For more than 5 years we have had Blumar’s collaboration in the environmental development of the school and thanks to them we have obtained two environmental certifications. We are happy and grateful. Without a doubt, the arrival of this composter will help us continue educating new generations in environmental matters.”
In this way, Blumar reaffirms its commitment to environmental education with the schools it works with, delivering an innovative and practical product to make the best use of organic waste generated in educational facilities and homes, through guided work and support to the communities of both regions.
