Blumar will include Veramaris algae oil in Skretting feed for its “Laguna Blanca” salmon destined for the global market.
This is Blumar’s first global program and will improve the quality and nutrition of its Atlantic salmon. Blumar and Veramaris, in collaboration with Skretting, are working on an innovative feeding protocol rich in omega-3 EPA and DHA thanks to Veramaris’ sustainable algae oil certified by ASC and MSC. The program consists of two components: the introduction of Veramaris algae oil in salmon feed provided by Skretting and the implementation of Veramaris’ Optimum Omega Nutrition (OON) guide to meet the nutritional requirements of Atlantic salmon in order to achieve better health, wellness, and quality results. Thanks to innovations of this kind, Blumar aims to achieve its environmental goals and continue improving sustainability throughout its value chain, which reduces dependence on extractive fishing to obtain omega-3.

Achieving optimal omega nutrition through algae oil
Veramaris algae oil contains the highest amount of omega-3 EPA and DHA currently available on the market. The implementation of the optimal omega nutrition guide can support production by meeting the nutritional requirements of fish during the growth phase. The optimal omega nutrition guide aims to help meet the requirements of omega-3 EPA and DHA and omega-6 ARA, while maintaining the proper ratio between omega-3 and omega-6 in the salmon diet, which leads to improved salmon health and welfare during production. By using Veramaris algae oil together with the optimal omega nutrition guide, fish farmers achieve improved productivity, product quality and performance, in addition to reducing their dependence on marine ingredients.

The "Laguna Blanca" salmon is further strengthened through this collaboration, as it improves its premium quality in response to consumer demand for high quality, nutrition, and sustainability. This product stands out for being raised in the crystalline waters of the Magallanes region without receiving antibiotic treatments, is certified by ASC, is rich in omega-3 EPA and DHA, and is fed with seaweed. Production is carried out at Blumar’s farming centers in Magallanes (Chile).
